Thomas (Doug) Shultz, 62, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of October 9, 2026 surrounded by members of his loving family. Doug fought a courageous battle against an extremely aggressive cancer that presented him with one challenge after another in a short period of time. Doug tackled each challenge with strength, dignity and the desire to live. He never once gave up his fight but unfortunately this battle was not his to be won. Doug was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Tom and Polly Shultz, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jane and their three beautiful children, Jenna, Jeffrey and Julie. Doug always stated that his children were his greatest joy in life and he loved being their dad. Doug also leaves behind a brother, Dan (Lois) and two nephews, Johnny and Jake. Doug graduated from Worthington High School where he was a varsity wrestler, he passed his love of the sport down to his son and youngest daughter, both of whom wrestled throughout their high school years. Doug attended The Ohio State University after high school, but left early to enlist in the United States Air Force where he served active duty and then with the National Guard for years as Sergeant Shultz. After completing his active military service, he returned to The Ohio State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Shortly after getting married, life would transfer Doug and Jane to Louisville, Kentucky where they resided for a decade and welcomed their first two children. Doug continued his education at the University of Louisville, earning a Bachelor of Computer Engineering, Master of Engineering and an MBA. Doug and family then made their way to the Cincinnati area after he landed a position at the Western & Southern Financial Group. Their third child arrived shortly thereafter. Doug would continue to work for Western & Southern for 20+ years. He was a much loved and respected Senior I.T. Manager at the time of his passing. Doug spent countless hours watching all his children’s sporting contests; soccer, wrestling, swimming, baseball (which he coached for many seasons). He loved every minute. He was also a diehard Ohio State Buckeyes football fan. Doug loved to swim, so much so he would get up early three mornings a week to be at the YMCA when the pool opened at 5:30 a.m. He enjoyed boating. He spent many a summer’s day on his Bayliner out on Ceaser’s Creek Lake. Doug was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking fishing trips with his family and friends. Doug also enjoyed a good game of euchre with family and poker with friends. Doug was very proud of his military service. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the veteran’s organization of your choosing.
