Joanne Allsop, 69 years of age and a resident of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 19, 1956, in Oberlin, Ohio, and was raised in South Amherst. Joanne was a 1974 graduate of South Amherst High School. In 1978, she made her home in Columbus, where she would spend the majority of her adult life. Joanne dedicated 35 years to education as a mathematics teacher at Thomas Worthington School, retiring in 2013. She also served as a tutor at RockbrIdge Academy. She was deeply committed to her students and believed wholeheartedly in service to others, a value that guided every aspect of her life. She truly lived life to the fullest. Joanne was a global traveler, exploring Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Aruba, and Alaska. She loved to flower and vegetable garden, cook, and was known as a talented candy maker. Adventurous by nature, she enjoyed playing hockey and scuba diving. She generously gave her time as a volunteer with the Ohio House Rabbit Rescue. A devoted Cleveland Guardians fan, Joanne cherished outings with family and friends. Her greatest joy was time spent with her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, who were like children to her. She rarely missed a seasonal sporting event and took immense pride in each of them. Survivors include her brothers, Richard “Dick” Allsop (Janet) of Amherst, and William “Bill” Allsop (Beverly) of Vermilion, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, and great great niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold “Buster” Jr. and Thelma Jean Allsop (nee: Mathes); and her great niece, Satira King in 2022.
