William A. Fields Jr, known as Billie, Bill, or Chief Fields, went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2024. He was a devoted husband, a cherished father, and a pillar of strength for his family and community. Bill was born on August 26, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, to Hazel and William A. Fields, Sr. After graduating from high school in 1970, he married his wife, Debi, in 1977. He joined the Sharon Township Fire Department during that time, serving for thirty-four years. While working his way through the ranks, he became battalion Chief, dedicating his life to serving and protecting his community with unwavering courage and commitment. In 1985, he was awarded the Firefighter of the Year award by American Legion Post 239. In 2009, he obtained the Columbus Division of Fire Citizen's Distinguished Award for his life-saving efforts at an automobile accident. His leadership, integrity, and selflessness were admirable and inspired all who worked alongside him. After retiring, he became an interim Liberty Township Chief for six months and then worked part-time at 1-800-BOARDUP. In addition, he put effort into his beautiful family and church, St. John AME, where he was a Head Trustee and life-long member. In addition to his professional achievements, Bill will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, and love of life. He was an AVID Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns fan! Bill was predeceased by his parents, Hazel and William Fields, Sr., brother David, sister Sharon, and grandparents Viola and Lawrence Fields. He leaves behind his loving wife, Debi Fields, and two children, Derek Fields and Kim Fields-Hamilton (Larry). Grandchildren: Alissa Fields, Aliyah Jones, Jordan Collins, Brianna Collins, and Great-granddaughter Zaira. Brothers Brian Fields and Gary Fields, sisters Jeani Gray (Ron), Lynn Fields, Lisa Fields, and other loving family members and friends. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Bill was a source of strength and inspiration, guiding his loved ones with wisdom and unwavering support. Though he may no longer walk amongst us, Bill's spirit will continue to live on in the memories of those lives he touched. His legacy will live forever, and his beacon of light will burn brightly in our hearts forever. Rest peacefully, dear Chief, husband, father, and brother; your presence will always be felt.
