Deborah Anne Parrett (“Debi”) was born in Columbus, Ohio in January, 1950 to parents Robert and Elzabetta. She grew up in Upper Arlington and Worthington, Ohio, graduating from Worthington High School in 1968, where she developed her life-long passion for art. The stained glass window she designed for an art class project is on display in the lobby of the Thomas Worthington High School to this day. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The Ohio State University in the mid-1970s. She worked in the Visual Display Department of the F&R Lazarus Company in Columbus, and in several customer and telephone support jobs. As a substitute teacher, she was known to her classes as “The Dragon Lady”, because one of her fill-in activities was teaching classes of all ages how to draw dragons, another of her passions. She enjoyed travel and photography, and the intersection of the two. Living on White Lake, Michigan for the final 17 years of her life, she enjoyed swimming, boating, and kayaking. She collected antique buttons of all kinds, and was known for the intricate designs she created sewing them onto denim jackets for herself and her friends. When not designing and making gold and silver jewelry (especially crosses), she enjoyed drawing (especially dragons), painting, “stamping” and creating greeting cards with friends, and singing in the Chancel Choir at the Clarkston United Methodist Church. Debi was a member of Chapter CT of P.E.O., and the Sashabaw Plains Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), where she was very active in many projects, always assisting with her artistic talents and her cheerful & positive personality. She could be found cleaning gravestones in Lakeview Cemetery, collecting items for active duty military personnel, helping create items for many events, and designing DAR exhibits at local libraries. Debi’s trademark smile always lit up a room. One friend described her as “a beautiful soul who brightened up everything around her”. Another said “Debi always seemed to have a smile, and radiated joy in her conversations”. She passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on July 29, 2025. She is survived by her brother Robert Parrett, with whom she lived, and by numerous cousins.
