Katherine “Katie” Simpson was called home by the Lord on the 25th of February 2024. She was 40 years old. Katie was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Simpson. She is survived by her loving mother, Pamela Scianamblo Simpson Cercone and her stepfather Richard Cercone; her sisters, Hillary Belmarez (husband Christopher, children Claire and Amelia), and Sarah Simpson (husband Robert, children Beau and Angelina); and her stepsisters Sarah Kieta (husband Andrew, children Bear and Scout), and Annie Fox (husband Michael). Katie grew up in Worthington, Ohio, in a home full of love. She graduated from Worthington Kilbourne High School and attended Bowling Green State University. In high school, she was captain of the girls’ golf team and shared a passion for billiards with her father. She learned the game from him and continued to play competitively through adulthood, ranking nationally. Katie grew up as a natural athlete and excelled at many sports throughout life. She was also an exceptionally skilled gamer with a community of loyal friends. Katie was a life-long lover of animals and nature. Through childhood, she had every type of pet imaginable. She had many loyal dogs and an affinity for training them. Her pets were her constant companions. As a young woman she spent time exploring the wilderness in Virginia. After moving back to Ohio, she would frequent local state parks to enjoy the peace of nature. In her work, Katie was a consummate problem-solver and committed to completing every task with precision. She had a long and outstanding career as a loan manager with Equitable Mortgage, helping thousands of families obtain the dream of a new home. Her stepfather Rich was blessed to have Katie as his invaluable partner at work. Katie spent cherished time with family and friends, energizing those around her with love and compassion. She was down-to-earth and approached every challenge in life with courage, resolve, and a big heart. She brought a light into every room and made the ordinary special and fun. More than anything, Katie had an exceptionally close and loving relationship with her family. Katie was quick-witted and always ready with a joke, play on words, or silly gesture. Her sisters were her best friends with whom she shared daily life. She was her father’s daughter – a little Tom – and they were inseparable. Her mother, Pam, loved her with the deepest devotion possible. They shared the beauties and complexities of life and had an inextricable bond. Katie is profoundly missed by all.
