Richard Tillman Goins, age 83, of Cypress, California went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Richard was born November 10, 1938. Richard Tillman Goins, also known as Papa Dick to friends and family, was an extraordinary man. Richard grew up in Worthington Ohio. In High School, he was on the wrestling team. After high school, he worked at a silk screen printing shop. Richard then entered the Air Force in March 1959 as an Aviation Cadet student graduating a year later and receiving a commission as a Second Lieutenant and rating as an aeronautical navigator. After completing advanced training at Mather AFB, California, where he met and married his first wife Reta, he was assigned to Minot AFB, North Dakota, as a member of the navigation and bombing team on a B-52 bomber. Reta and Richard had two children. They later divorced. As a B-52 crewmember, he served during the Cold War, Cuban Missile Crisis, and also had two tours of duty in Southeast Asia. He was then assigned as a crewmember on the FB-111 supersonic bomber at Pease AFB, New Hampshire, where he married his second wife Jennifer. Jennifer brought her two children into the marriage. Richard’s final Air Force assignment involved FB-111’s at Plattsburgh AFB, New York, from where he retired with honors on May 31, 1979, as a Major. Multiple military plaques adorn his home today, reminding his family and friends of the hero he is to all of them and this country. After the military Richard worked at Boeing Aerospace Company for 20 years. Besides his great accomplishments, Richard and his wife Jenny enjoyed each other's company along with their blended family by traveling in their motorhome. His children, wife, grandkids and all who loved him relied on his presence and miss him dearly. He was a man of God, a patriot who loved this country and defended it. Though he is physically gone, we take comfort in his presence with the Lord now. Today Richard is survived by his wife Jennifer Goins, his two daughters Monica Brannon and Michelle Madison, his step-son Kirk VerHoef and step daughter Heidi McKenna, plus 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is greatly missed.
