Michael (Mike) Carl Ross, age 70, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully in his childhood home on October 10, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Mike was born on May 4, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio. Mike graduated with a Master’s Degree from Ashland College. He spent his life teaching, mentoring and serving others. In the 70’s, students thrived under his direction as Principal at St. Vincent de Paul School in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. In the 80’s, he moved back to Columbus, Ohio where he continued his career being the Director of the Learning Center at the Salesian Boys Club. Mike went on to work for Goodwill Industries for 10 years and finished his career at Franklin County Board of DD where he retired in 2017 and was fortunate to meet his loving wife Karen Ross. Mike and his wife have spent the past 13 years traveling, enjoying their families, exploring covered bridges, ferris wheels and roller coasters. Mike loved a spontaneous adventure almost as much as he loved ice cream. He was giving of himself to multiple causes, as he chose personal and career paths that reflected his generosity for service and instruction. A devout catholic, he dedicated his personal life to family and church and his professional life to teaching, where his instruction impacted thousands of lives at the elementary and middle school levels. Mike is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Jane Ross; brother and sister-in-law Joe and Barb Ross. Survived by his wife of 13 years, Karen Ross. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Emily (Tony) Smith, Zoe (Joe) Thompson, Simon Ross and Rachel (Michael) Brewer; step-children: Roel, Rowena, Kristin and Shelby; Grandchildren: Abby, Tony, Cal, Trey, and Ty. Also survived by sisters, Cheryl (Tom) Crawford, Maureen (Frank) Morelli, and April (Jeff) Paul. Other dear family and many special and close friends. He will be deeply missed by all. - Egan-Ryan Funeral Home
