Andrew 'Andy' T. George died suddenly at home in Columbus on March 23rd, his 59th birthday. He grew up in Worthington and lived his entire life nearby, with the exception of four years spent at Rio Grande College, where he earned a Bachelor's degree. He was well-known in the Worthington schools and beyond, where he thrived playing sports, both soccer and basketball. This includes earning a Dispatch article caption about the Cardinals winning a basketball game 'By George'. He worked several years as a lifeguard at the Worthington pool and made friends with the Worthington police force, a family service given the mischief engaged in by most of the family over the years. At Rio Grande, he was a stand-out soccer goalie, being named MVP at least three of his four years there and being Co-Captain his last two years. It was also during those years that he took up hunting with his brother David, which became a lifelong passion and provided him with a beloved group of like-minded friends. A friend's cabin in Morgan County was probably his favorite place in the world. He was a natural at striking up conversations and making acquaintances and friends and was intensely loyal in a quiet show-up way. At various times, he played a critical role in supporting his brother, his sister, his brother-in-law, and his nieces when they were in need. He married Julie Mullen in 1993, and they settled in Hilliard where they had a daughter Tori and a son Drew. His children were his life. He worked in sales and later in manufacturing at Worthington Industries, where he also forged enduring friendships. A generation later, he again became a well-known presence in Worthington as the proud father, where both children excelled, his daughter Tori in theater and musical performance and his son Drew in baseball, soccer, and basketball. He soldiered on after the unendurable loss of his son Drew to leukemia in 2019. He pushed through pain, brushed up on his dance skills, and was thrilled to walk his daughter Tori down the aisle at her wedding, welcome son-in-law David into the family, and dance with Tori at the reception. He was the right-hand man and provided immeasurable support to his mother during most of his father's two-year-long battle against leukemia. There is no doubt that he was comforted at the moment of his death in the knowledge that his son, his father (Tom), and his aunt (Mary) were waiting to receive him. He is survived by daughter Tori (David), mother Nancy, sister Barbara, brother David (Lora), brother-in-law Wence, nieces and nephews Brittany, Ashley (Michelle), Raquel, Victoria (Greg), Hayden, and Estes, grand-nephews and -nieces Kyler, Dominic, Gage, Sofia, Olivia, Noah, Harper, Cooper and cousins Kristin, Amy and Keith.
